Go and Tell!

JOHN 20 - THE LAST THING WE WOULD EVER HOPE FOR — SPC

15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

As Easter draws near, I have been wanting to write something…something that is meaningful and moving and powerful during this unusual time as we celebrate the most important day to the life of a follower of Christ. The more I thought about writing, the more I felt that I had nothing “new” or “creative” to say in regards to the resurrection of my Savior.

And that is okay…

What more do we need to say than the truth of the Good News? What more do we need to proclaim than the incredible miracle and love of God who sent His Son to bear our sins on the cross and rise again three days later so that we may be redeemed, resurrected, and restored in the living hope of our Savior?

God is teaching me that it is not my place “to come up with new things.” It is my place to proclaim the truth of who He is and what He has done for us to the world. It is His Spirit and truth that changes lives.

My small group and I just finished a The Women of Easter study by Liz Curtis Higgs where we studied, in awe, the role of some of the women in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. We finished the book looking at Mary Magdalene, the least likely to be given the incredible commission she was given. I was moved by this scene in Scripture where Jesus, before He appears to any of his disciples, appears to Mary Magdalene and tells her to “go and tell!” He tells her to go to his followers and let them know that He is ascending, that He is risen!

Wow! What an honor to be the one to deliver this Good News. I imagine Mary running to the disciples to tell of her experience, and I absolutely love Mary’s response: “I have seen the Lord!”

If you are a believer and have seen the Lord, then you are probably smiling right now because you know of the unexplainable experience of being in the presence of God.

I have seen the Lord…

I have seen the Lord, my Savior, who redeemed my soul when I was a child and has continued to grow me and transform me to be more like Him.

I have seen the Lord in times of suffering and sickness in my life.

I have seen the Lord in good times of spiritual growth and fruitfulness in my life and in those around me.

I have seen the Lord through the blessings of my children.

I have seen the Lord in the sacred journey of marriage with my loving husband.

I have seen the Lord in the pain and grief of broken relationships.

I have seen the Lord in the deep sadness of death.

I have seen the Lord’s mercy, grace, compassion, faithfulness, and love in so many places and so many ways that I pray I am continuously reminded that I have indeed seen the Lord.

I have seen the Lord!

In C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity, he says, ” ‘People need to be reminded more often than they need to be instructed.’ The real job of every mortal teacher is to keep bringing us back, time after time, to the old simple principles which we are all so anxious not to see…”

So this is what I have to offer Him…a life and heart of worship to go and tell the world! To tell the world of who He is and what He has done and how I have seen Him. How can I not…for I have seen the Lord!

This Easter I pray that you would be reminded of the Great Sacrifice, Love, Grace, and Resurrection we have in Jesus. I pray that you and I, like Mary Magdalene, will go and tell that we have seen the Lord! Reflect on just how faithful He is and how you have seen Him. May this Easter be spent in deep communion with our Savior and overwhelming excitement to go and tell!

Shared in love,

Lindsay

So what can I say
And what could I do
But offer this heart O God
Completely to You
So I’ll walk upon salvation
Your Spirit alive in me
This life to declare Your promise
My soul now to stand
